Project Description: TrackGuard – Smart Railway Safety System
TrackGuard is a smart IoT and Machine Learning-based robotic system designed to enhance railway safety and prevent accidents. The robot is equipped with metallic conductivity wings that detect even the tiniest hairline cracks on either side of the track. When conductivity breaks, the system instantly identifies a crack and sends an alert.
A vibration sensor monitors abnormal track movement. Using a camera module with ML-based image classification, the system detects whether a train is approaching. If a train is detected, the wings automatically compact to allow safe passage. If no train is detected, it raises a maintenance alert due to abnormal vibration.
To prevent collisions, a proximity sensor detects large obstacles on the track, both day and night. The robot uses ML-trained pole number recognition to accurately locate and report issues. All sensor data is collected by Quarky, sent to Firebase via PictoBlox IoT, and accessed globally through a MIT App Inventor mobile app.
In extreme cases, TrackGuard can automatically turn railway signals red at the problem location to avoid accidents. This innovative solution offers a reliable, scalable approach to railway infrastructure monitoring—combining automation, real-time data, and machine intelligence to save lives and improve efficiency.
