Thendral Pavithra, 13, from DPS Monarch International School in Doha, Qatar, combines her passion for coding with advocacy for gender equality. Inspired by the global music sensation BTS, Thendral developed an AI project titled ” BTS: Women are Born to Succeed.” 

Her project, launched during the 2023 Codeavour competition, uses interactive coding challenges featuring BTS members to promote awareness and discussion around gender issues. Thendral’s journey in coding began in 2020 with PictoBlox, the AI and Coding software.

Thendral’s success at the Bahrain nationals and subsequent recognition at the Dubai International Showdown underline her growing influence as a young coder dedicated to empowering women through technology.

Thendral’s Coding, AI, and ML project, BTS: Women are Born to Succeed, addresses the persistent issue of gender inequality through an innovative and engaging medium. Inspired by the empowering messages and global influence of the pop group BTS, Thendral chose to model her AI project around their persona because they are recognized advocates for positivity and change

Her project incorporates coding puzzles that feature BTS members, using their stories and music as a backdrop to educate users about gender equality. By solving these puzzles, participants engage with scenarios reflecting real-world challenges women face, promoting a deeper understanding and awareness. 

This approach not only makes learning about serious issues accessible and enjoyable but also leverages BTS’s widespread appeal to inspire a broad audience to advocate for gender equality.

Thendral’s coding journey is a compelling tale of persistence, growth, and ultimate triumph in facing challenges. Her introduction to the coding world began in 2020 when she first discovered PictoBlox through a workshop conducted by Groot Academy. This platform opened her eyes to the possibilities of creating her digital realities. Consequently, it sparked a deep interest that would shape her future endeavors.

Her inaugural participation in Codeavour 2021 marked her first serious foray into competitive coding. Thendral developed “Killer Asteroid Didymos,” a science project to save Earth from a fictional cosmic threat. Despite only receiving a consolation prize, the experience was invaluable. It stoked her determination to improve her coding skills and make a meaningful impact through her creations.

In 2022, she returned to Codeavour with renewed vigor and a project close to her heart: “Auxie: An Interactive Autism Child-Friendly Robot.” This project, designed to aid autistic children, reflects her growing awareness of how technology could address specific societal needs. 

Though she did not win, the feedback from judges and participants fueled her resolve. Consequently, she continues to refine her approach to coding and problem-solving.

2023 was the watershed year for Thendral. Inspired by the global icons BTS, known for their advocacy in social issues, she created “BTS: Women are Born to Succeed.” This ML and AI project won the judges’ hearts and earned her the coveted first place at the Dubai International Showdown. This achievement is a testament to her growth as a coder and a visionary.

This guidance was instrumental in transforming Thendral’s innovative ideas into award-winning projects. It demonstrates the profound impact that dedicated mentorship can have on a young coder’s development and success.

Following her victory at Codeavour, Thendral is not resting on her laurels. She plans to expand her Coding, ML, and AI project to reach a wider audience and deepen the impact on gender equality awareness. Thendral envisions incorporating more interactive elements and scaling the project for global outreach.

Her long-term goal is to continue blending her coding skills with her passion for social issues. Consequently, she aims to inspire other young coders to use technology for societal change.
